Following are communications to/from the city of Midlothian:

Following is an e-mail to Mayor Whatley, used by permission

Dear Mayor Whatley,

To say the least, I was less than thrilled in the way item 2008-121 was handled on Monday night. It was clear to me that you had no intention of letting the citizens speak on the issue involving Councilman Chambers. Because he has voiced his opinion on various issues that he does not agree with, you have turned it into a personal attack. For some reason you don’t like people who ask questions on issues you want passed in council. My other observation from the council meeting was that the other council members do not think for themselves. You did 99% of the talking, and what the other council members had to say wasn’t even pertinent, and one of them was mumbling so low we couldn’t even hear what he was saying!  They are content in letting you run the council. I call this “Good Ol’ Boy Politics.”  This came home to me when I wrote to you and carbon copied the rest of the city council on the issue of the gas well drilling, and I never received a single response from any of the other council members. I find it hard to believe that they don’t have any opinions on the issue.

As far as this sub-committee is concerned, you should not be on that committee, because I do not think Councilman Chambers will get a fair and unbiased investigation. You have turned this whole thing into a personal vendetta against Councilman Chambers because he had the audacity to question your leadership! You have managed to alienate a lot of people over the annexation issue, and probably other issues as well. To silence a council member because he has a different opinion is childish and shows a lack of trust of the people you work with.

If, after the 60 day period ends, and the sub-committee finds a reason to block the participation of Councilman Chambers, then I really think you will not be mayor after the next election.
