To the editor:
By the time this is published,
the results of the elections will be known. I’m penning this on the
Thursday prior to election day, but I can already tell you who the winners
are: all the candidates.
They’re all winners, even
though they don’t all get seats. The only losers in an election are the
ones who didn’t have the guts to put their name on the ballot and run a
campaign, and then make fun of those who didn’t win.
Until you’ve put your name on
a ballot and run a campaign, you don’t have the right to call someone else
a loser. After you’ve put your name on a ballot, you’ll respect everyone
who ran, regardless of outcome.
I don’t watch football. I’ve
sat with friends and relatives while they watched on TV -- it’s a group of
people badly in need of exercise watching 22 people who badly need a rest.
After each play, they yell at the TV, telling the professional players
what they did wrong.
It’s bad enough to have “sour
grapes” when your candidate loses; but to demonstrate same when you are
in the winner’s circle demonstrates a complete lack of class.
I hope all of us will remember
all the candidates are winners, and treat them accordingly, regardless of
the vote.
Sincerely,
Ray L. Williams
